Leslie Fisher has been fortunate enough to learn her digital photography skills from some of the biggest and brightest in the industry. This presentation will go over examples and methods to take better digital pictures. Everything from composition, lighting, flash techniques and point and shoot camera settings will be discussed. Time permitting, Leslie will show you some of her favorite Photoshop tips to help you enhance your digital images.

Building Learning Communities: Projects for the Global Classroom Connection

The presentation will provide background on six Community Projects and how to make a global connection. Projects allow students to learn 21st Century skills and prepare them to meet the demands of the global community and engage them in mastering core curriculum skills. Projects are models for driving education change and transforming educational institutions into model learning environments that cater to the broadest range of users and using collaboration tools.  Learn how to integrate digital programs into the classrooms with new knowledge, skills, and strategies that are critical to individual use of digital information resources. Join us and learn how to improve learning through Digital Media and Multimedia Magic.  Demonstrations will include Digital Storytelling, Podcasts, Web 2.0 and Blogs to teach 21st Century Literacy skills while gaining expertise in the use of digital communication and authoring tools.

Wondering how to integrate Web 2.0 tools and computers into classroom instruction? In this engaging hands-on science session you will see and hear how to use a variety of technological tools (MacBooks, Wikis, iChat, etc.) for classroom instruction to meet various student learning styles. Laptops will be provided for this session. Let the students do the work, while you facilitate the lesson. Inspire your students to become the creators and publishers of technology infused projects with real world connections.

Our Remediation Success Story!

K-5 students in Wake County enjoy using a web-based Reading and Math remediation and intervention program, Prescriptive Instruction, which has helped to reinforce necessary skills. Program coordinators will share successes and details of implementation for Summer School of 2007 & 2008 as well as a roll-out to over 80 schools during the regular school year.

2008 NCTIES Grant Winner    Lean how student-created digital videos can be used to motivate students to learn science concepts.  Participants will view examples of videos created by students using PhotoStory and MovieMaker software.  Participants will receive a list of free resources and instructions that can be used to instruct students in the creation of science videos.
